Senior Programs
WSOS Senior Programs provide a variety of services to the seniors. Local senior centers offer meals, informational seminars and various activities. Transportation services are provided to Seniors, the general public, or other organizations through contracts with TRIPS. Over 500 nutritional lunches that meet USDA requirements are prepared by WSOS and distributed at Senior Centers as well as transported to homebound seniors. Residents of Ottawa and Sandusky County who care for their sick or elderly loved ones can find support through the Caregiver Support program operated by WSOS's Senior Programs in partnership with community organizations.

Sandusky County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame

Sponsored by: W.S.O.S. Senior Program Advisory Council. The Council is made up of 12 seniors representing senior centers in Sandusky County and 4 community members representing Sandusky County MRDD, Sandusky County United Way First Call for Help, Memorial Hospital, and Sandusky County Health Department.

Purpose: To recognize senior volunteers who are role models and present a positive image of aging across various types of volunteer activities throughout the county.

Outstanding Senior Volunteers selected for the Hall of Fame are those whose journeys through life resulted in not only reaching, but also exceeding their goals. They may have given of their time, money and compassion to improve the quality of life for us all. They are role models for positive aging. Their dedication to community and to family not only highlights the contributions of their generation, but also reminds us how much we all benefit from living in this county.

Who Will Be Honored: Up to 12 Seniors will be recognized.

Deadline: Nomination form must be returned by 3/31 to Fremont Senior Center, 600 West State Street, Fremont, 43420.

Award: Recognition will be at the County-wide Senior Day Event. Individual plaques will be presented to each inductee. Annually a single plaque will be inscribed with all the names of the inductees and hung at the Fremont Senior Center.

Eligibility: Nominees must be 60 years of age or over. Seniors who volunteer for any organization within the county are eligible. Individuals selected will have shown their dedication to serving their communities. To be considered the nomination must be submitted on the application form provided. Criteria for selection will include a review of the following: 1.) awards/recognition given to nominee, 2.) Boards/Commissions or Organizations which the nominee was a member, 3.) outstanding personal traits, 4.) major service/achievements, 4.) length and/or impact of service, 5.) description of how the nominee presents a positive image on aging, and 6.) description of unusual circumstances which the nominee overcame.

Selection Process:
  • Nomination forms will be collected at the Fremont Senior Center.
  • Nominations will be kept confidential through the selection process. Each nominee will be assigned a number and his or her name, address, and family contact information will be kept separate from the nomination packet that the selection committee receives.
  • The selection committee will be the members of the W.S.O.S. Senior Program Advisory Council.
  • Council members will review and rank the applications at the Council meeting in April.
Notification of Inductees:
Those selected for the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame will receive a letter from the Chairperson of the W.S.O.S. Senior Programs Advisory Council; two weeks prior to the Senior Day event. Enclosed will be one free ticket; family members may attend if they purchase a ticket.
