TRIPS schedules ribbon-cutting for new building

With a convoy of TRIPS vehicles entering the garage, the new TRIPS public transit facility will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. on December 6. It is located behind the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department on Countryside Drive. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
The facility, owned by Sandusky County commissioners, was made possible by funds from the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act (ARRA) through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
Of the 17,000 square feet that the building boasts, 12,000 square feet will be used for vehicle storage. No maintenance of vehicles will be conducted at this facility. The rest of the building will provide space for office staff, dispatch, scheduler communication center, and a training/conference room.
TRIPS staff will begin operation out of the new facility by December 31. An open house for the public will be set for January. Details will be released at a later date.
TRIPS started in 1998 as a very modest transportation system among some Sandusky County organizations that included WSOS. Later it expanded when funding from ODOT was secured. Currently, the service operates according to a reservation schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight Monday to Saturday. TRIPS is a division of WSOS Community Action.
