Utility help aids residents with winter heating

“Your service was (is) saving our lives and keeping us in a home. Thank you.”

WSOS Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP) staff frequently receives comments such as these from people who have sought help with their utility payments. The program provides assistance with utility payments and fuel supplies for households facing a utility shut-off or heating supply shortage. WSOS EHEAP assists residents of Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa and Seneca counties. The program runs now through March 31, 2018.

“A one-time utility assistance payment is all it takes to help families stay warm and avoid falling into debt with utility bills,” WSOS Basic Needs Specialist Joyce McCauley-Benner said.

To qualify, households must be threatened with disconnection, have been disconnected or have less than a 25 percent supply of bulk fuel. Households must also have a gross income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty level (e.g. $43,050/family of four).
