Emergency heating assistance available this winter

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Winter Crisis Program through WSOS Community Action Commission will soon be available to help households with utility payments this winter.

The Winter Crisis Program begins November 1, 2017 and runs through March 31, 2018. The program is available for households that have a utility disconnect notice or have utilities that are already disconnected. The program also assists households that have less than 25 percent bulk fuel for heating or are in need of furnace repair.

WSOS provides the Winter Crisis Program for residents of Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa and Seneca counties.

In order to qualify, household must be at or below the 175 percent federal poverty guidelines (e.g. up to $43,050 for a family of four) and have all required documentation with them at the time of the appointment. Documentation should include a photo ID; proof of citizenship for all members of the household; a copy of a utility bill; income documentation for the most recent 90 days; and social security numbers and dates of birth for all household members. Those who are receiving disability assistance must bring payment documentation.
