WSOS helps 340 households with summer cooling assistance

The 2017 WSOS Summer Crisis Program served 340 households in the Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood County region this year, providing more than $63,000 in various types of cooling assistance in these four counties.

Each year, the program provides financial and/or cooling assistance during July and August to low-income households with family members who are elderly or have a disability.

Although numbers are not yet finalized, the program estimates serving the following numbers this summer in each county:

Wood County — 168 households

Sandusky County — 87 households

Seneca County — 54 households

Ottawa County — 31 households

Assistance through the Summer Crisis Program includes electric bill payments, central air conditioning repairs and other needs to keep cool this summer. The program specifically assists persons that are most vulnerable to high summer temperatures, including low-income households with an older household member (60 years or older), or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health.
