Local grads earn GEDs with help from Healthier Buckeye

Sandusky County Healthier Buckeye Movement congratulates six participants who recently earned their GEDs with the assistance of the program.

Destiny Clark, Zachary Davis, Cassondra Heckert, Lauren Laubert, Seth Pfeil and Julie Rathmann each earned their GEDs during a May 24 ceremony at Vanguard Career Center in Fremont. The Healthier Buckeye participants were among other students who earned their GEDs that day.

Healthier Buckeye assists individuals and families to become self-sufficient through education, financial literacy, parenting, career coaching, GED preparation and other services as needed.

“Barriers to independence are different for everybody,” Lucille Phillips, family advocate, said. “Earning a GED is an important step to moving upward, and I congratulate our participants who followed through and achieved their degrees.”

The six students also each received $500 in financial assistance from Terra State Community College. Students will be able to use this should they choose to further their education through Terra.
