Assistance available for Marine Mechanics course

The Skills for Life Marine Mechanics course is now enrolling and is set to begin in early January at the Ottawa County Resource Center, 8043 W. St. Rt. 163, Oak Harbor.

The 16-week program teaches students the basics of equipment, motors, water safety, seasonal maintenance and repair practices, and other necessary marine mechanic skills. Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on training.

Those who are long-term unemployed, underemployed, veterans or spouses of veterans are especially encouraged to apply, as they may be able to enroll in the course at no cost due to a recent funding allowance through the Department of Labor Ready to Work program.

“Ready to Work already has helped many in our region with training and career placement within in-demand fields,” said Roger Fisher, WSOS employment and training coordinator. “Anyone who is interested in a marine trades career should jump at this opportunity to receive training.”
